About Sara
M.OMSc., H.BSc.
Prior to discovering Osteopathy I completed a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto (St. George Campus, Toronto) where I majored in Global Health, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, and minored in Buddhist Psychology. Throughout University I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Jackie Gardner-Nix, a pain specialist at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto and the founder of the Mindfulness-Based Chronic Pain Management (MBCPM) program. It was through my work with Dr. Gardner-Nix that I learned about chronic pain management and the impact of the mind-body connection. Here began my life-long journey to find mindfulness, a daily meditation practice to improve the health of my mind. I surprisingly also noticed changes in my focus, my regulation of emotions and how I approached problems. This understanding of chronic pain and the mind-body connection lead me to look for a hands-on profession where I could make a direct impact with others on their quality of life.
Back tracking to childhood, as that’s when my fascination surrounding how the body moves and functions began. As a child I was very active and participated in various sports such as swimming, skating, dancing, competitive cheerleading and field hockey. It wasn’t until I suffered through many sore backs, ankle and wrist injuries that I began to appreciate the human body and all of its natural healing properties. Seeing many different practitioners growing up, it wasn’t until my first visit with an Osteopath that my eyes were opened up to the possibility of using gentle treatment to correct posture, body misalignments and affect the nervous system all at the same time. Osteopathy is a continuous learning journey and I am passionate about furthering my depth of practice.
Working on continuing education courses and reading Osteopathic literature to improve every treatment I provide my clients. Every day is a new opportunity to further develop my understanding of the art and practice of Osteopathic Manual Therapy.
